The presenter, Aqeela Parker Hydrogeologist from GEOSS will discuss the following topic:

The Effectiveness of the MAR Scheme at a Mine along the West Coast of South Africa.

The Elandsfontein Phosphate Mine is one of the only mine’s in South Africa that injects 100% of their dewatered groundwater back into the aquifer system. This talk will cover the effectiveness of this MAR scheme and the impact it has had on the aquifer system.

GEOSS South Africa (Pty) Ltd is an expert groundwater consulting company.

Our expert hydrogeologists and GIS database analysts specialise in projects focusing on groundwater exploration, development, monitoring of boreholes, and management and protection of groundwater in South Africa. We also focus on geotechnical services and geotechnical investigations, with a focus on renewable energy and slope sustainability.

Aqeela is a hydrogeologist with five years of experience in the field. She currently leads the Monitoring and Management Department at GEOSS, a private groundwater consulting firm. She holds a master’s degree in hydrogeology, with her research focused on delineating the recharge and discharge areas of the Lower Berg River Region along South Africa’s West Coast. Her expertise lies in determining natural groundwater sources and flow paths using both physical and hydrochemical methods. She is now embarking on a PhD, investigating the effectiveness of a managed aquifer recharge scheme at a mine on the West Coast.
